The New School was founded in 1972 by a group of parents and teachers
who wanted to create an educational environment in which high
academic achievement was combined with a close teacher-pupil
relationship. The New School remains "new" in its
commitment to an on-going process of change and renewal, as pupils
come and go and as educational techniques develop.
The New School follows the English National Curriculum and provides
nursery, kindergarten, primary and secondary education up to
University entrance. The School is recognised by the University of
London Examinations and Assessment Council (ULEAC), the University of
Cambridge Local Examination Syndicate (UCLES) and the Midland
Examining Group (MEG) as an official examination centre.
The School is a non-profit making organisation run by the Academic
Council (all staff and seven student representatives) which also
elects the headteacher, and by the Executive Council (three elected
teachers and four elected parents).
